Getting Started with the Cognosos Guardian Staff Badge: A Quick Guide

The Cognosos Guardian Staff Badge requires minimal effort for setup and daily use. Here’s how to get started in three simple steps:

  1. Register Your Badge: Upon receiving your badge, complete the registration by signing the Staff Badge Terms and Conditions and entering your information.
  2. Attach Your Badge: Clip the badge on securely. Familiarize yourself with its configuration and practice reaching for it under stress. The yellow side, which should face your body, is bright for easy visibility in any lighting.
  3. Test the Badge: Perform a badge test at the start of every shift, ensuring sufficient battery life.

Staff Badge Registration

Your badge arrives with a sleeve containing usage instructions. Registration is required whenever a new badge is issued, which can be done through the Cognosos portal or the Healthcare Mobile App, as directed by your administrator.
Successful registration is confirmed by a text message. Save the contact as “Cognosos Guardian” for easy identification of test messages. If you don’t receive a confirmation, verify your registration details and retry. Should issues persist, contact your onsite administrator for help. If using an alternate device, messages may be sent via email; consult your admin if messages are not visible.

Wearing and Placement Best Practices

Always wear the yellow side of the badge against your body, positioning it behind any existing badges on a clip with multiple badge types, like your ID badge. This placement ensures easy access to the safety button during emergencies.

Summary of Cognosos Guardian Badge Usage and Care

Device Status and Battery Indicators

The staff badge features a Device Status LED and battery status indicators:

  1. Green – Battery is operational.
  2. Solid Red – Battery is low; replace within 5 days.
  3. Flashing Red – Battery is critically low; replace immediately.

Daily Badge Testing

Run a badge self-test at the start of each shift by pressing the status button. Confirmation messages ensure the badge is operating correctly. No response might indicate poor coverage or a platform issue. Users without registered phones will rely on LED indicators. In case of low battery, a message alerts the need for replacement.

Using the Safety Button

For assistance, press the safety button for 3 seconds, triggering a priority alert. The platform will remind you 60 minutes after a safety event is logged. Press the safety and status buttons simultaneously to cancel alert mode. Avoid pressing the safety button outside covered areas as alerts won’t be sent and may drain battery life.

Platform Health and Updates

Occasionally, service outages may occur due to AWS or facility issues. Cognosos monitors these and communicates to badge administrators. Product updates may require user action. Log into your application for updates advised by an administrator. Updates preclude safety button usage temporarily.

Badge Care and Cleaning

  1. Remove badge before cleaning with disinfectant wipes or solutions. Avoid opening badge housing.
  2. Do not use abrasive cleaners, acetone, ketone, betadine, or sodium salts.
  3. Clean at shift’s end to maintain hygienic standards.

Critical Batteries and Damage

Check battery status regularly. Report non-functional badges for replacement. Extreme temperatures can affect battery life. Damaged or exposed badges should be returned for new ones.

Usage Restrictions and Considerations

Badges function only with Cognosos-approved facilities. Moving between locations requires administrator coordination for badge functionality. Compliance with FCC rules is mandatory. Avoid badge use during electrocautery procedures or in MRI rooms.
