Smoke Alarm, Carbon Monoxide Alarm, and Fire Extinguisher Installation Guide
- Smoke Alarm: Install one on every level and in every bedroom. For wall installations, the top edge should be 4 inches (102 mm) to 12 inches (305 mm) from the wall/ceiling line. For ceiling installations, place it as close to the center as possible and at least 4 inches (102 mm) from where the wall meets the ceiling to avoid dead air spaces. Ensure no obstructions block smoke or carbon monoxide from reaching the alarm.
- Carbon Monoxide Alarm: Install one on every level and in every bedroom.
- Fire Extinguisher: Install one on every level, plus in the kitchen and garage.
Alarms may not always activate in time to prevent harm from rapidly spreading or obstructed fires (e.g., smoking in bed, gas explosions). The smoke/CO Alarm is not a replacement for life insurance and may have limitations, such as failing to detect smoke or CO in remote parts of the home.
Important Maintenance and Warranty Information
- Weekly Testing: Test your Smoke/CO Alarm weekly to ensure functionality. Replace the unit if it is faulty.
- Warranty: First Alert® offers a ten-year warranty from the purchase date, covering defects in materials and workmanship. Options include repair, replacement with a new or remanufactured product, or a similar product if the original is unavailable.
- Exclusions: The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, misuse, unauthorized repairs, or Acts of God. It is valid only for the original purchaser with proof of purchase required for service.
