USB Connection
Connect the SMC-PAD to a Windows/Mac device using a USB cable. It will be automatically recognized and start charging. The indication lights are red for charging and green for charging complete.
Wireless Connection
Press and hold the BT button to activate wireless mode. A flashing light indicates activation, and a steady light indicates a successful connection.
Wireless Adapter
Insert the Wireless Adapter into a Windows/Mac device. The connection is successful when both lights are steady.
Direct Wireless
Enable Bluetooth on a Windows/Mac/iOS/Android device and select SMC-PAD from the list. Devices need to support BT5.0 for wireless connection. For Windows, the installation of the BLE MIDI driver is required. Refer to the “Connection Methods” section of the user manual for details.
MIDI OUT Connection
Wired Connection: Use the 3.5mm MIDI OUT port on the back of the device for MIDI OUT functionality.
Wireless Connection: Use a Five-Pin wireless MIDI adapter to connect to devices that support MIDI IN, such as synthesizers.
Note: Wireless Adapter A and B are not included in the package and must be purchased separately.
Low Battery Indicator: If the device has insufficient power, both the left and right buttons will flash simultaneously.
II. Panel Overview
Back of Device Features
- Power: Switch to turn the device on or off.
- Power Indicator: Lights up red during charging and turns green once fully charged.
- USB: USB-C connection port for connectivity.
- MIDI OUT: Provides MIDI output for additional connectivity options.
Knobs
The device features eight assignable 360-degrees rotary encoders. These knobs can send Aftertouch, MIDI CC, and Pitch information through software settings. To adjust Note Repeat functionality, hold the ‘Note Repeat’ button and rotate Knobs 1-4. For detailed instructions, see ‘Note Repeat Editing Instructions’. Settings changes can only be made via software accessible via a QR code on the machine.
Pads
Equipped with sixteen RGB back-lit pads that are velocity-sensitive and include Aftertouch, these pads can send Note, MIDI CC, and Program Change signals. Settings changes require the software, accessible via the QR code on the machine.
Button Area
- BT Button: Long press to toggle Bluetooth.
- PAD BANK: Switches to the second bank of pads.
- KNOB BANK: Switches to the second bank of knobs.
- Left/Right: Navigate between groups of eight tracks in the DAW.
- PLAY/STOP/RECORD: Control the respective DAW functions.
- SHIFT: Allows access to additional functions when used with various pads.
Note: Mackie Control must be selected as the input/output in your DAW for DAW-associated button functions.
Note Repeat
Activate the note repeat function by pressing the “Note Repeat” button followed by the desired pad, or vice versa. Using “Shift + Note Repeat” allows further settings:
- Pads 1-8 (Rate): Change rate from 1/4 to 1/32t.
- Pads 9-13 (Swing): Adjust note deviation.
- Pad 14 (Latch): Keep notes repeating after pad release.
- Pad 15 (Sync): Sync tempo with DAW.
- Pad 16 (Tap Tempo): Manually adjust and visually indicate tempo.
Knobs 1-4 can also control note repeat functions:
- Knob 1 (Rate): Switch rates.
- Knob 2 (Swing): Adjust deviations.
- Knob 3 (Tempo): Change tempo between 30 to 300 BPM.
- Knob 4 (Latch): Toggle latch.
