Making the Connection

USB Connection

Connect the USB cable through the USB port to a Windows or Mac computer. The device will be automatically recognized and will begin charging simultaneously.

Indicator lights:

1. Red light: Charging
2. Green light: Charging complete

Wireless Connection

1. Bluetooth (BT) Button: Press and hold the BT button to activate the wireless function. The light will flash initially and will stay on once the connection is successful.
2. Wireless Adapter: Insert Wireless Adapter B into a Windows or Mac computer. A successful connection is indicated when both lights stay on.
3. Direct Wireless: Activate the Bluetooth function on Windows, MacOS, or Android devices. Select “SMK-25” from the list. Windows users require BT 5.0 and an additional BLE MIDI Driver.

MIDI OUT Connection

1. Cable Connection: Change the Pedal mode setting in software from Pedal to MIDI OUT. Once completed, the port on the back of the keyboard can be used as a MIDI OUT port to connect to devices such as hardware synthesizers.
2. Wireless Connection: Use a Five-Pin wireless MIDI adapter A to connect to devices such as synthesizers or other devices that support MIDI IN.

 

Important Notes:

1. Wireless Adapters A and B are not included in the package and must be purchased separately.
2. A low battery notification is indicated by the digital segment display flashing when there is insufficient power supply for the keyboard.

Back of Keyboard

1. Power: Switch to turn on/off the MIDI keyboard.
2. USB: USB-B connection port.
3. Sustain: 1/4 inch sustain pedal connection port.

Pitch Stripe and Modulation Stripe

1. Pitch Stripe: Slide the pitch stripe up and down to control the pitch bend. The center position is the original pitch of the sound. When the finger is lifted, the sound will return to the original pitch.
2. Modulation Stripe: Slide the modulation stripe to send continuous MIDI CC messages.

Note: You can assign the modulation stripe using the MIDI Learn function in your DAW.

User Manual Summary

Button Functions

1. Play: Controls the Play function of the DAW.
2. Stop: Controls the Stop function of the DAW.
3. Record: Controls the Record function of the DAW.

Note: Selecting presets within the keyboard and correct setup inside the DAW is required for Transport control functionality.

Bluetooth and Connectivity

Press and hold the BT button to connect the MIDI keyboard with a receiver or your phone. Connection is successful when the light stops flashing.

Arpeggiator and Smart Functions

1. ARP: Enables arpeggiator mode and adjusts its settings by holding the Arp button and pressing a key.
2. SCICH: Activates smart scale/chord mode, constraining notes to a specified scale or turning single notes into chords based on the root note pressed.
3. More detailed instructions are available for both functions.

Knob and Pad Management

1. KNOB-B: Switches between Knob 1-8 and Knob 9-16.
2. PAD-B: Switches between Pad 1-8 and Pad 9-16.
3. Use KNOB-B and PAD-B together to edit the velocity curve.
4. Use BT and PAD-B to select presets.

Octave and Pitch Adjustments

1. OCT+ and OCT-: Adjust the pitch range of the keyboard.
2. Hold OCT+/OCT- and rotate the Transpose Knob to shift the pitch by one note per step.
3. Flashing light speed of OCT+ and OCT- indicates octave range changes.
4. Press OCT+ and OCT- simultaneously to reset the octave range.

Knobs

Eight assignable 360-degree rotary encoders can send Aftertouch, MIDI CC, and Pitch information. Arpeggiator settings can be changed by holding the Arp button and rotating the knob.

Note: Settings can be changed only inside the software.

Pads

Eight RGB backlit pads are velocity-sensitive and support aftertouch. They include Note, MIDI CC, and Program Change functionalities.

Arpeggiator and Smart Scale/Chord Instructions

Arpeggiator Instructions

1. Arpeggiator Types: Change styles by pressing and holding the Arp button or rotating the knob. Options include:
2. Up: Notes ascend from the lowest to the highest.
3. Down: Notes descend from the highest to the lowest.
4. Incl: Sequence moves up then down, with the lowest and highest notes sounding twice.
5. Excl: Similar to Incl, but the lowest and highest notes sound once.
6. Random: Notes play in random order.
7. Order: Notes play in the sequence pressed.
8. Repeat: Continues repeating the sequence.
9. Oct: Adjusts the octave range, resetting after four presses.
10. Latch: Keeps the arpeggiation going even after releasing the keys.
11. Gate: Determines the duration of each note.
12. Tap: Set the arpeggiator’s tempo by tapping a key.
13. Swing: Adjusts note deviation to create a groovy feel.
14. Tempo Control: Alter the arpeggiator’s tempo by holding Tempo+/Tempo-; sync with DAW using SYNC. Note: When SYNC is active, some tempo controls are disabled.
15. Time Division: Sets the arpeggiator rate in various fractions (e.g., 1/4, 1/8T).

Smart Scale/Chord Instructions

Smart Scale Mode

1. Select Scale: Hold a button and press C-8 to choose a scale.
2. Major/Minor: Determine scale tonality by pressing the respective keys.
3. Exit: Press ‘off’ on the left keybed side. Exiting Smart Scale mode retains Smart Chord mode if active.

Smart Chord Mode

1. Chord Types: Choose among Triad, Tth, 9th, or Random.
2. Major/Minor: Select chord tonality.
3. Scale Selection: Choose scale for chords by using keybed notes (C-8).
4. Exit: Press ‘off’ on the right keybed side. Exiting Smart Chord mode retains Smart Scale mode if active.

Example: To play chords in the C minor scale, hold a button and choose the note, type, and tonality on the keybed.
